Military Outreach for Service was originally founded in 2008 as Military Outreach for Service – Internal Revenue Service (MOS-IRS) by four IRS employees completing their executive training. The organization received its nonprofit status under 501(c)(3) in November 2009 as MOS-IRS.
In 2010, the National Board of MOS-IRS voted to expand membership all of the Department of Treasury and other federal agencies and the organization’s name was subsequently changed to Military Outreach for Service (MOS).
MOS adopted a fiscal year of October 1 – September 30 to coincide with the federal fiscal cycle.
